Underrated Honeymoon Destinations

So often the honeymoon that couples pick is based on whatever is on top of mind- whether it’s the most well-known, a referral from friends or just the most convenient. But, we reckon it’s time to change that. The honeymoon will no doubt cost a pretty penny so there’s no reason it shouldn’t get just as much time and effort into its planning as the rest of the wedding process! We’re hoping that this guide will jump-start your imagination towards honeymoon options that are less popular but oh-so-amazing. Let’s get started.

 1. Azores, Portugal

Choosing Azores Portugal for your honeymoon means you’re actually giving yourself a collection of 9 islands! Whether you choose to do 1, a few, or all, will probably be up to your time and budget but know that each and every island has a unique combination of culture and nature. In Azores, Portugal, you can find everything from volcanoes, thermal waters, forests and black sand beaches. The variety of terrain and environment will add an exhilarating, adventurous and absolutely stunning touch to your honeymoon (plus, can you imagine the photos?!). The natural wonders that the islands boast are even more magical when combined with their diversity of wildlife and culinary options, so you’ll have plenty to explore, plenty to do and plenty to eat. You can expect the beautiful maritime climate to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable while giving you the opportunity to bask in hot springs and lagoons, trek in the forests, or dive into the Atlantic ocean. And when you’re ready to call it a day, don’t forget to taste some of that European wine.

2. Madagascar

If the first thing that comes to mind when you hear ‘Madagascar,’ is the cartoon movie, you’re not alone! But trust us, when you discover the real Madagascar, it’s going to be a pretty great surprise. Madagascar is the 4th largest island in the world, located right off the southeast coast of Africa. If you, your partner – or both of you- are animal lovers, then you need to put Madagascar at the top of your list pronto. The natural paradise is home to an ecosystem that’s so diverse, it’s home to thousands of species who call the coral reef (which is nothing less than gorgeous by the way), the natural parks, the mountains and the forests ‘home’. And it just so happens that among those animals are the world-famous lemurs that attract tourists from around the world.

3. Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Caribbean lovers, this one is for you. The Galapagos Islands, located in the Pacific Ocean and off of the coast of Ecuador, is the perfect destination to honeymoon-goers who want white beaches and unreal scenery- but with a twist. And still to this day the collection of islands is considered to be one of the best places worldwide to experience wildlife. That’s because the islands are one of the few places left untainted by pollution, with sheltered habitat for native species and a feeling of isolation from the rest of the busy world. In part, that’s due to the islands’ 3% human population. So, honeymooners get to experience a type of serenity that’s hard to find anywhere else.
