Wedding Trends For The Coming Season

Five months of 2019 are already gone, and a little more than the other half stays ahead of us. How are the wedding trends for the remainder of the year going to be? Weddings never go out of season. Come recession, the wedding industry is the one to be only minimally affected by the price fluctuations. Especially in India, families spend at least a third of their savings on wedding celebrations. Then it becomes necessary to understand if the amount of budget set aside for a wedding, is put to good use. To insulate a wedding from being that stress-building affair, it is often suggested to keep the ceremonies as intimate as possible, and so the recent wedding trends say, to keep it private and personalized. The wedding trends of 2019 are more inclined towards contemporary popular-culture trends from the past and the current year.

While the weddings continue to be as grand as they can be, the number of invites that are being sent out, have dramatically reduced to keep the intimacy for those who want to make their wedding experiential, as opposed to prodigal. Providing an affinity of close relatives and a breather from the hassle of tending to superfluous guests, private wedding ceremonies have saved budget and time for the grandiosity of venue and travels. Families can splurge on luxurious vacations to transform their families’ wedding into an experience to remember for both the sides and hence have been invested upon and popularized in the popular culture. Color palettes for the decor and themes of the weddings have been muted in the recent past, but are expected to get gaudier in the future. Thus, one may expect a time of ‘noir-themed’ weddings and ceremonies soon, as the couples continue to splurge more on the decor and theme-based experiences for the guests. Huge vases of flowers and chandeliers are expected to make a come-back, according to industry experts.

The coming time might also say good-bye to the pastel trend of dressing for the wedding, as the latest bridal collections adorning the IG handles of the likes of Sabyasachi, Anita Dongre, and Tarun Tahiliani are either bright-and-poppy variants of pinks, greens, and yellows or are nude and golden in their accents. Thus, colouring-up the trousseau is going to be a thing this year. Whereas jewellery wise, the soon-to-be-weds are expected to hold on to the current trend of everything ‘camp’. Chunky, OTT jewellery is making a come-back and is here to stay. The bridal collections by TBZ and Tanishq sing the story of statement neck-pieces that can serve as ‘the highlight’ of your outfit. Sonam K. Ahuja’s statement headgear, Deepika’s heavier-than-the-world earrings, and Priyanka Chopra’s diamond-laden statement neck-piece have all guided this trend to popularity.

If you are inviting a lesser number of people, you have got to invite them in some style. Isha Ambani’s wedding invite was loaded with trinkets, while Sonam and Anand Ahuja sent only e-invites to their guests for a message of the sustainable environment; anyhow, both of them made a statement. This is where the trend of customization is heading – bespoke gifts and innovative invites.

In the entertainment department, we do not want pomp and show, said no Indian ever. Since this department is one of the most important from the entire ceremony, it is getting more and more attention. We still remember the videos from Anushka-Virat wedding reception, where Gurdas Maan ignited the event with his electrifying performance amongst the audience as the guests laughed and danced away in celebration. At Sonam’s wedding though, the guests themselves were the performers. Therefore, it can be said that more the involvement of the guests, the more fun your festivities become. It will be safe to assume that the upcoming weddings are going to do away with the stage system, and would be more about the spirit of attending a wedding to laugh and dance. Hence, our weddings might be compact guest-wise but elaborate in the experiential spirit.
